Restoring Balance. Supporting Wellness.

Why Good Posture Matters

Good posture is the foundation of a healthy, balanced body. It influences how you move, breathe, and feel every day. Whether you're working at a desk, exercising, caring for your family, or simply going about your daily routine, the way you hold your body effects your muscles, joints, and overall well-being.

When your body is properly aligned, muscles and joints can work together more efficiently. This reduces unnecessary strain on the neck, shoulders, back, hips, and knees, helping to relieve discomfort and lower the risk of developing chronic pain. Good posture also supports the natural curves of the spine, improves balance and mobility, and allows your body to move with greater ease and efficiency.

Poor posture, on the other hand, can gradually lead to muscle tension, headaches, restricted movement, fatigue, and ongoing pain. Long hours spent sitting, repetitive movements, stress, and muscle imbalances can all contribute to postural changes that affect your comfort and quality of life. Fortunately, these patterns can often be improved with the right combination of care, education, and healthy lifestyle habits.

Improving your posture is not about striving for perfection or maintaining one rigid position all day. It is about developing healthy movement habits, building strength and flexibility, and creating balance throughout the body. Small changes can make a meaningful difference in how you feel each day.

Improve Posture & Movement with Functional Patterns

As part of my approach to improving posture and movement, I draw inspiration from the principles developed by Functional Patterns, founded by Naudi Aguilar.

I am a Human Foundation Practitioner, having completed the Human Foundation program through Functional Patterns. While I am not yet a Certified Functional Patterns Trainer, I incorporate many of the movement and biomechanical principles I have learned into my approach to posture assessment, movement education, and manual therapy where appropriate.

If you're interested in learning the Functional Patterns methodology in greater depth, I highly recommend starting with their 10-Week Online Program. It provides an excellent introduction to the fundamental concepts of posture, gait, breathing, and functional movement, and is suitable for individuals looking to improve how they move in everyday life.
